| An insider's guide to little-known places to go and things to see in Dubrovnik |

UVALA, THE GREEN ESCAPE FROM CITY WALLSUvala is the main beach in Lapad. Bus 4, 5, 6, and 9 will take you there from the Old Town. From Gruž, main port, you can take bus 7. A downhill path surrounded by trees takes you from the road to the beach. Along the path you'll see a tennis field, restaurants, an artistic water fountain, coffee shops, icecream shops, alot of souvenir shops and places where you can buy a ticket for a boat trip to nearby islands.
Things to know before you go I remember my grandfather telling how in the past very few people knew about this beautiful area. Today it has developed into a modern tourist resort where you meet people from all over the world. If you like volleyball, feel free to join some team of players if you see them playing on the sandy field. Right on the beach there is a popular bar open from morning till late night. I like it because in the night they light it with candles and it has wonderful view of Uvala bay and the hill Petka.
You can also swimm in Uvala in the night when the weather is pleasant and the sea is a lot cleaner and peaceful. An important part of this beach is the slide made along with the 'first version' of the beach. It is made of concrete and it's not reccomendable for using because you might get hurt. Now, it is very special part in the sense that during years it has become like a monument and a symbol of Uvala.
You'll find icecream, souvenirs, food in any corner of Uvala. For staying connected with the civilization there is an internet center, a mixture of technology and nature situated in a park on the way to the beach. Pick your activity and a place in the very beach or if you prefer the meadow behind, put things under an olive, cypress or pine tree...and have picnic!
