PETKA, THE AMAZON OF DUBROVNIK
I think of Petka hill as the Amazon forest of Dubrovnik, because there you can find more kinds of trees, plants, and flowers than anywhere else in the area.
And it's a fantastic place for a walk.
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Petka is the smell of the trees that embraces you the moment you step in....
On the way up, here and there you can catch a view of Lapad and Uvala bay, from different angles. I like to stop at those spots for a few moments and absorb the atmosphere before continuining my walk.
The best view, of course, is from the top of the hill, which you reach in 20 minutes. If you want to convince some friend to come to Dubrovnik with you next time, bring a camera and take some pictures here... it's quite spectacular.
Petka also hides an abandoned military bunker from the second world war, but I'll not tell you where it is, so if you go there you can have some fun trying to locate it....
On the top of the hill and along the walking paths you'll also find benches if you want to rest before going on.
There's a second smaller hill, "Small Petka", next to it, and a path called Ševina Staza connects the two. This path is very popular with joggers and even some professional athletes who go there for training because it's a natural, incontaminated place and it's also just a few minutes from town.
Most tourists never discover it, but I feel that Petka is one of our treasures, and if you visit Dubrovnik, I recommend that you go there at least once.
